Welcome to the Cleveland School of Audio Recording! Our 24-week Intro to Audio Engineering 101 program will take you through the fundamentals of audio engineering and introduce you to some of the skills used to create the industry’s best-sounding recordings. Our qualified instructors have over 30 years of combined professional experience in the industry and have worked with some of the biggest names in music today. You will work both in groups and 1-on-1 with our instructors mastering certain concepts, theories, and hands-on techniques of recording and mixing audio.
Students will be subjected to two (2) mandatory lessons per week consisting of lecture and lab time. Additional “open labs” will be available further in the program allowing you to supplement what you’ve learned and experiment with new techniques. You will also have the opportunity to sit in on real, professional recording & mixing sessions engineered by the staff at Lava Room Recording – Cleveland’s premiere full-service commercial studio. Upon conclusion of your program, you will receive a certificate of completion signifying your accomplishment and that you are now equipped with the proper knowledge and skills to begin a career in the audio industry!
Throughout this 24-week program, you will learn the ins and outs of audio engineering and production, ranging from basic signal flow to the full session recording. By the end of this program, you should be comfortable and capable enough to run a session on your own and pursue your career as an audio engineer. The program will be broken up into three 8-week periods, allowing us to focus on each intricate part of recording without getting overwhelmed.
Here are a few of the topics we’ll cover:
- Basics of Sound and Hearing
- Signal Flow
- Microphone Designs and Applications
- Analogue and Digital Recording Technology
- MIDI and Electronic Production/Programming
- Recording & Mixing Consoles
- Signal Processing
Not only will we read and learn about these topics, but also we will get hands-‐on experience in the studio and apply what we are learning. The opportunity to sit in on real recording/mixing sessions may also arise, and if so it is strongly recommended to take in all you can.
